Making Tax Digital (MTD): What You Should Know

From April 2026, the next phase of Making Tax Digital (MTD) will come into force for self-employed individuals and landlords whose turnover exceeds £50,000. This change means that digital record-keeping and more frequent reporting to HMRC will become mandatory.

What’s Changing:

  • If your annual turnover is over £50k, you will need to keep digital records.
  • Rather than just submitting an annual return, you will provide quarterly updates, plus a final declaration each year.

Why It Matters:

This shift is part of the government’s plan to modernise the UK tax system, making tax reporting more accurate and efficient.

Next Steps

Over the coming weeks, we will be contacting clients directly who are affected by the April 2026 change. We will talk you through exactly how MTD applies in your case and guide you through the required transition.

If you’d like to discuss your situation sooner or ask any questions now, please feel free to reach out and we will do everything we can to help.
