HMRC PHISHING COMMUNICATIONS

Unsure whether you have received a genuine communication from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)?

There has recently been a huge spike in the number of phishing scams relating to HMRC and in particular rebates.

To help HMRC investigate if you report all ‘HMRC related’ phishing emails and bogus text messages to them it will enable them to act.

Even if you receive the same or similar phishing email or text message on multiple occasions, please forward it to the following email phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk and then delete it the original scam email.

Never open any attachments or click on any links on the email or text message, as they could well contain malicious software or direct you to a bogus website.

HMRC will never send you notification of a tax rebate or refund by email, neither will they ask you to disclose any personal or payment information by email.

Don’t visit the website within the email or disclose any personal or payment information.

Please see below for a selection of email addresses often used to distribute the tax rebate scam emails:

  • ‍service.refund@hmrc.gov
  • secure@hmrc.co.uk
  • taxrefund-notice@hmrc.gov.uk
  • taxrefund@hmrc.gov.uk
  • refund-help@hmrc.gov.uk
  • refund.alert@hmrc.gov.uk
  • refunds@hmrc.gov.uk
  • rebate@hmrc.gov.uk

If you are ever unsure about a communication, please just ask us.
